What is RecallDepth?

RecallDepth is a free public resource for searching and understanding federal recall data. Government agencies publish recall notices, but they're scattered across multiple websites with different search interfaces and formats. RecallDepth pulls all of that into one place — so you can search across drug, food, medical device, meat, and consumer product recalls simultaneously.

Data Sources

RecallDepth aggregates data from five official government sources:

  • FDA Drug Recalls — Prescription and over-the-counter drug enforcement actions from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
  • FDA Food Recalls — Food and beverage recalls, including allergen mislabeling, contamination, and undeclared ingredients.
  • FDA Medical Device Recalls — Recalls of medical devices, equipment, and in-vitro diagnostics regulated by the FDA.
  • USDA FSIS Recalls — Meat, poultry, and egg product recalls from the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service.
  • CPSC Recalls — Consumer product safety recalls from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, covering everything from toys to appliances.

How to Use RecallDepth

Use the search bar to find recalls by product name, company, reason, or lot number. You can also browse by classification (Class I, II, or III), by state distribution, by year, or by the type of recall. Each recall page includes the full reason for recall, distribution details, and the current status.

Recall Classifications

FDA and USDA recalls are grouped into three classes based on severity:

  • Class I The most serious. There is a reasonable probability that use of the product could cause serious adverse health consequences or death.
  • Class II May cause temporary adverse health consequences, or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.
  • Class III Not likely to cause adverse health consequences, but violates FDA or USDA regulations.

Data Freshness

RecallDepth imports data from official government APIs and bulk downloads on a regular basis. The footer of every page shows when the data was last updated. For the most current recall status, always verify with the originating agency (FDA, USDA, or CPSC).
